Factory-Built Twin-Turbo Pinto: Nice Price Or Crack Pipe?
Did Ford really build a twin-turbocharged pickup truck based on the Pinto in 1971? The seller of this "sweet rust free 1 of 1 factory built pinto race truck twin turbo 4 cyl bumper dragging beast" says they did, and that "ford picked me over bob glidden to drive cause he couldnt handle this monster." If it's for real and there's documentation to prove it, $15,000 is a pretty good deal. If not... well the going rate on Pintocheros might be a few notches below 15K. It's official — despite Jalopnik and over 80,000 arrowhead fan boys best efforts, Pontiac's decided to officially name the Pontiac G8 Sport Truck the unimaginative name of "Pontiac G8 ST." Frankly, we were as disappointed as you are. So we did what all fan boys of what could have been the new "El Camino" do when they're disappointed — we broke open a case of PBR. After a few beers we decided to get fellow El Camino fan boy Mike Levine from PickupTrucks.com to help us set up a conference call with Pontiac marketing director Craig Bierley. Our purpose was to get to the bottom of how a process that seemed to encourage the type of fan movements like our "Vote El Camino" campaign would seemingly result in Pontiac choosing the original name of the vehicle. Interestingly, when we asked the question — Bierley told us Pontiac "didn't really have ST as the name when we engaged in the process, we were just calling it a sport truck." But, if you look at the pictures we originally took of the car in our exclusive first look, it had the "ST" letters. Go ahead, take a look at the liftgate in the picture up top as well as in this original picture of the "Sport Truck." We'll have more on the "NameG8" story tomorrow, but for the moment hit the jump for the press release. We're going to go and finish up the rest of this case of PBR.

It's one thing to spot a 90s Ford Escort with a truck bed and huge fins, but what a joy to see that the owner has actually named his creation using the correct -chero suffix. We've seen too many homemade Ford cartrucks with GM-centric names, so we're just happy this one isn't emblazoned with a huge "ESCORTAMINO" graphic. We're also happy that Crazygutgut had his camera at the ready when he spotted this fine machine in San Francisco's Sunset District. JanTheMan has found this 1980 Ford Capri that's been upgraded to full-on "Tuff Willys" status. We especially like the beautifully crafted custom fender flares, and the cowcatcher in front is a definite keeper. Stock up a few cases of akvavit to keep in the bed and you'll be ready to hoon your way through that long Scandinavian winter in style. If you don't speak Swedish, you can try the Google Language Tools version, which seems to indicate that a "well known rally driver" was involved in the construction of this fine customized motor vehicle. "El Camino" Name Is Still Alive For The Pontiac G8 Sport Truck
Despite a report from KickingTires.com two months ago that "El Camino" was officially out as a name for the new ute from Pontiac, we're now being told by Pontiac spokesman Jim Hopson the name is still very much in the mix. What reason there may have been for this change? Unknown. But all we do know is if the chance still exists to bring back the "El Cam" — to any GM brand — we're in full support of it. Olympic Gold Medalist Hearts El Caminos
Amanda Beard is one hell of a swimmer, racking up two gold medals at the Olympics and eight U.S. Championships. But she's also got a dirty little secret — she loves El Caminos. Even though she doesn't own one yet, she's plotting her next move and tells Autoweek all about it. The boys over at AW use the combination of athlete and car to make an argument for powered sport in the games, but we don't see that happening. Top Gear Australia Hosts Revealed, We Patiently Await Ute Hoonage
After a long whittling process, BBC Worldwide has taken a list of thousands of hopefuls for Top Gear Australia down to the three lucky blokes who now own the title of "happiest hoons in Australia." The three presenters, Charlie Cox, Warren Brown, and Steve Pazzati along with an AUS version of Stiggie will be starring in the first episodes beginning later this year. The Beeb is of course hoping the eclectic trio will maintain the spirit of the original, while adding their own down under spin on things.
