Well, now, thanks to Craigslist, it could be auto showing in your driveway.

Based on the Continental GT Speed, the GTZ offered a more pronounced overbite than the standard car, as well as more jewel-like light clusters. And now it has found its way to the city by the bay. Representing the ultimate aspiration of European unity - an Italian body draping the German/English underpinnings - the sliver over forest Zagato maintains the standard car's hoontastic 6.0 litre W12, which should be good for near 200 mph trips to the Gray Poupon concessionaire.

While the plebian Continental GT will set one back a mere $179,200, the asking price of this stile infuso version is a cool 1.3 million.

That means it might be time to start scrounging between the sofa cushions for loose change if this Bentley floats your boat. And hey, they're accepting trade-ins!

Check it out here or over here if somebody has already snapped it up. Hat tip to j money!

RUF Dakara: A Porsche Cayenne That Looks Like A Porsche

Here's something you don't see often: a tuner car more faithful to a brand image than the product it's based on. Somehow the Porsche Cayenne-based RUF Dakara manages attractive, round 911-style headlights.

We're still not too enthusiastic about the idea of a Porsche SUV to begin with, but we recognize they've sold enough Cayennes to make Budweiser sales at NASCAR events look slow. The market has spoken. The RUF boys have taken the Cayenne and restyled the offending elements and delivered a Cayenne which might have transcended the shortcomings of the segment and actually looks... dare we say it? Good.

Between the installation of 911 headlights, a front fascia which borrows from historical Ferrari's as much as it does Porsche, widened fenders and an inoffensive set of wheels, the Dakara is looking mighty dapper in it's deep blue hue. Ceramic brakes and a turbocharged V8 pushing out 600 HP and 659 lb-ft of twist don't hurt either. The RUF Dakara is set to be unveiled later today at the Geneva Motor Show.

World Innovation at Geneva Motor Show: the Ruf Dakara

GENEVA, Switzerland, 5 March, 2009 - The High Luxury SUV built by RUF is named Dakara and is based on the Porsche Cayenne. The exterior and interior is able to embrace the most ambitious wishes. Because of the 911-headlights, the Dakara affects like a sports car. Four 22 inch- five spoke wheels and the broadened fenders demonstrate pure power. The bodykit fits to every Cayenne. Cameras in the front and in the back of the Dakara cater for the panorama view. The interior room is affected by complex processed leather trim which does not only fascinate with the precious materials but also with the new designed seats. A High-End Multimedia system with TV-reception, access to the internet and a CD-/DVD-Changer will gratify even the highest requirements. The V8-Turbomotor offers an engine output of 600 horsepower (600 Ps) at 6000 rpm. The maximum torque of 659 lb-ft/lbs (890 Nm) is delivered at 3000 rpm. So the Dakara is able to reach the speed of 62 mph (100 Km/h) in 4,8 sec. The chassis as well as the brake system are adjusted to the high requirements. Even ceramic-composite brakes are available. The Dakara perfectly ties in with the RUF model-range.

Renault Sport Mégane RS: Nous Vous Aimons Dans Jaune

Renault has a history of building some fairly taut sporting versions of regular production econo-hatchbacks. The Renault Sport Mégane RS is no exception to the rule, bringing 250 turbocharged horses to the table.

Hot on the heels of the Mégane F1 Team R26, the Mégane R26.R and the Mégane Trophy comes the newest hot-hatch in the Renault lineup, the 2010 Renault Sport Mégane RS. The Mégane RS comes in two flavors, 'Sport' and 'Cup' - and no, two girls don't come with the later, but stronger bracing and a limited slip differential does. Both versions come with Renault's next-gen 2.0 liter 16-valve twin-scroll turbocharged gas engine with a very capable and even 250 horsepower at 5,000 rpm and 250 lb-ft of torque from 3,000 rpm with 80% available from 1,900 rpm. This represents a 20hp and 30 lb-ft increase over the Mégane R26.R which was Renault's previous crowning achievement in the hot-hatch race. The increased horsepower is driven through a tight ratio six-speed manual gearbox and based on numbers alone, it sounds like it would be an absolute blast to drive.

We'll more than likely never see the 2010 Renault Sport Mégane RS on our shores, but we can only hope that everyone else is taking a good look at what the Frenchies are doing. This, and the 2010 Ford Focus RS, is exactly the sort of package that we'd love to have here. It manages sportiness, lightness and fuel efficiency. What more could you ask for?

Renault Press Release (Or French For: We're Never Going To Give This To You, You Smelly Americans):

As the latest in a long line of Renault sporting models, Renault Mégane RS stands out through its exhilarating performance and handling. The cocktail of its 250hp engine, unmistakable sporting coupé credentials and choice of two chassis ('Sport' and 'Cup' with limited slip differential) is clear evidence that Renault Mégane RS has been honed to offer an extreme ride.

Coming after Mégane F1 Team R26 and Mégane R26.R, Renault Mégane RS profits fully from Renault Sport Technologies' extensive experience when it comes to manufacturing production sporting models.

Powerful

New Mégane Renault Sport is powered by a new-generation 2-litre 16-valve turbocharged petrol engine which boasts maximum power of 250hp (184kW) at 5,500rpm and peak torque of 340Nm from 3,000rpm. The sum of the different improvements made to this engine has produced a gain of 20hp and 40Nm over Mégane R26.R which itself emerged as the yardstick in the world of performance hatches. The Renault Sport 2.0 T engine's twin-scroll turbo is exceptionally responsive and is particularly flexible at lows revs, with 80 per cent of maximum torque available from 1,900 rpm. Its broad useful rev band makes it a genuine joy to drive in everyday use, and the pleasure remains all the way up to the rev-limiter whenever it is pushed a little harder. The engine of New Mégane RS drives through a six-speed manual gearbox.

Work has also gone into the acoustics of the Renault Sport 2.0 T engine to produce a telltale sporty pitch audible inside the cabin under acceleration.

Efficient

Renault Mégane RS has inherited the same suspension arrangement as the current Mégane RS. Thanks to an independent steering axis layout at the front, the suspension and steering functions have been separated to ensure a particularly high standard of handling and traction performance.

Like the sporting versions of the Renault Clio and Renault Twingo ranges, New Mégane RS is available with a choice of two chassis: the 'Sport' chassis or the 'Cup' chassis, which comes with a limited slip differential for even greater traction.

The electric power steering features specific, sportier calibration and benefits from the latest improvements seen on new Renault Mégane aimed at achieving greater precision and even more feedback from the road.

Renault Mégane RS is equipped with ESC which is fully disconnectable in order to enable owners to sample the pleasure of enjoying their car's full potential round a circuit.

Provocative

New Mégane RS benefits from undeniably sporty looks. The front bumper incorporates the LED daytime running lights, as well as the splitter which recalls the low-slung nose of the R28 Formula 1 car. The sporty calling of this Renault Sport-badged model is further emphasized by its 18-inch aluminium alloy rims, central exhaust tailpipe and rear diffuser.

The interior appointments, too, exude the world of motor sport, from the extra lateral support for the seats, to the analogue rev-counter with visual and audible gearshift indicator, the aluminium pedal cover and the specific steering wheel complete with thumb rests. The Renault Sport signature is also visible inside the car: on the headrests, rev-counter background and dashboard.

Renault Mégane RS profits fully from Renault Sport Technologies' extensive experience when it comes to manufacturing production sporting models

Renault Sport Technologies has combined its experience of motor sport with its longstanding production expertise to develop a comprehensive range of sporting cars. The hallmarks of Renault Sport models are their pedigree engines and efficient chassis which together deliver an undeniably high level of sports performance, as testified by the reputation forged by Mégane F1 Team R26 and Mégane R26.R which were voted 'Sporting Car of the Year' in France in 2007 and 2008 respectively.

RUF eRuf Greenster Electric Porsche Zaps Geneva

You're probably asking what RUF is thinking, developing an electric sports car, but remember way back when you asked the same thing about that small startup in Silicon Valley. RUF might be onto something.

RUF has partnered with German-based Tier One supplier, Siemens, to create the world's first electrically driven 997 Porsche 911 aptly named the RUF eRuf 'Greenster.' They've managed to create a complete electric replacement to the standard 911's 3.8 liter boxer-6 engine and it's packed with butt-loads of torque, 700 lb-ft of it to be exact. The 362 horsepower doesn't hurt either, but that's not what you'll feel when you mash your foot on the throttle.

The massive torque numbers are great, but what really sets this electric RUF apart from the crowd is the Siemens eDrive 'double-motor' concept that can charge on a 400-volt power source and using the same power outlet, the system can feed energy back into the system, effectively creating an overpriced, badass-looking generator.

RUF really knows how to get the enthusiasts on board and this time they've started with a 997-based cabriolet and added a rollover bar and fabric/plastic rear removable window section. They then painted the eRUF 'Greenster' to look like a classic Porsche 912 Targa which gives it epic win status among the Jalop-elite. RUF says that they'll build a small run of the eRUF electric sports car and you can expect to see them on the street sometime in 2010.

RUF Press Release:

The Evolution of the eRUF in Collaboration with our Technology Partner
Siemens Corporate Technology

The research organization of Siemens (Corporate Technology) is working intensively
on the topic of electro mobility, which could become part of its environment portfolio,
with 19 billion Euros already contributing a mere 25% of total revenue. The demands
made on the electric vehicle and the design of the power network infrastructure play
a decisive role. Topics being investigated include, among others, energy generation
and distribution, traffic and energy management, smart metering, power electronics,
software and sensor technology and of course electric drive train systems, and the
recovery and storage of energy. Within the scope of this research, Siemens
Corporate Technology has developed an integrated system consisting of a
motor/generator, power electronics and an interface with a battery connection for
electrically powered cars.

The fundamental ideas that led RUF Automobile GmbH to develop an electrically
driven vehicle came from Alois Ruf. The head of the automobile manufacturer from
the Bavarian town of Pfaffenhausen had a vision of a simple energy transfer concept:
his hydroelectric power plants, which feed 35 million kW hours of electricity per
annum into the Germany electrical network, could also propel the eRUF.
The symbiosis of two leading companies – Siemens as a leader in the electric
industry and RUF in the automobile industry - will leverage the best possible
synergies for the future of electro mobility.

Siemens Corporate Technology has developed an adapted power train for the eRuf
"Greenster". Thus, a preliminary version of the concept for the innovative eDrive from
Siemens will already be on display in Geneva. While the vehicle to be presented in
Geneva is still equipped with a central motor with a power output of 270 kW and 950
Nm [Wort gelöscht] torque, the following version will be produced as a small series
with Ruf as a double-motor concept with the innovative integral eDrive. As such, the
eRUF will be the world's first electric vehicle fitted with a bi-directional network
connection, which – without the otherwise necessary additional recharging
electronics – is capable to be recharged in less than an hour at a 400-volt power
outlet – and can use the same power outlet to feed energy back into the power
network if required. The small series planned on the basis of this concept by RUF
Automobile is expected to hit the streets in 2010.

Resist, if you can, and look at the car’s namesake lurking to the left in race trim: the original Alfa GTA from the 60s. Its full name is Giulia Sprint 1600 GTA and, pronounced in Italian, sounds just as gorgeous as you’d think.

Our love letter to the GTA still stands. If it ever makes it out of concept and into the United States, make sure you don’t buy it in red. It’s enough of a cop magnet already.

ALFA MiTo GTA CONCEPT TO STAR AT GENEVA MOTOR SHOW

A high performance concept of the new Alfa MiTo, the Alfa MiTo GTA, will be starring at this year's Geneva International Motor Show in early March.

In line with the famous GTA (Gran Turismo Alleggerito) signature, (Alleggerito means reduced weight in Italian), the MiTo GTA Concept prioritises weight reduction, and the achievement of an optimum power-to-weight ratio.

Considerable work has gone into lowering the vehicle's centre of gravity; thus certain components such as the tailgate spoiler, roof and mirror fairings are in carbon-fibre; while aluminium is used extensively in the braking system, suspension, and some parts of the chassis.

Under the bonnet, an exciting new petrol engine, very much in keeping with the pre-requisites of downsizing, environmental awareness, and the offer of high power and efficiency in return for low weight and optimised packaging, powers the new GTA Concept.

Designed by Fiat Powertrain Technologies and exploiting the vast experience gained in the production of Twin Spark and Alfa V6 road and race engines, the compact new petrol engine employs advanced technical solutions including direct injection, dual variable valve timing, state-of-the-art turbocharging and advanced electronic management systems to produce a remarkable 240bhp from just 1742cc.

Under-floor aerodynamics have been a particular concern, while the entire car has been lowered by some 20mm. Front suspension employs new geometry with aluminium leading arms, while the rear suspension has all-new bushings, and the comprehensively revised chassis boasts an ‘active' suspension system, (advanced damper control), which counteracts the transfer of load under acceleration, stiffening the rear end and maximising traction. The suspension also interacts with the braking system and steering to obtain the most efficient control of vehicle dynamics, while a ‘Sky-Hook' function ensures an excellent level of passenger comfort under conditions of everyday use.

Frazer-Nash Namir by Giugiaro: World's Fastest Hybrid... Concept

The Frazer-Nash Namir by Giugiaro claims to be the world's fastest hybrid. The car unveiled in Geneva is a 187 MPH missile miserly enough to run on vapors. How fitting.

The Namir hybrid concept is a collaboration between Italdesign Giugiaro and Frazer-Nash, and starts off with a carbon fiber chassis mounted to a searing orange body, a substantial underfloor battery pack, a 0.8-liter gasoline rotary engine and two electric motors, one front and one rear. The total combined power output is a respectable 370 HP and Giugiaro claims 0-to-62 times of 3.7 seconds and a top speed of 187 MPH with a 1,200 mile range — we suspect the last two figures are mutually exclusive. And in actuality, until we see video of instrumented testing, we're still going to call this car the world's fastest vaporware.

One quick aside — why anyone would go through the trouble of completely rendering a golf bag to put in the trunk for the cutaway model, we don't quite understand, but it serves to reinforce our notion of electric and hybrid cars as toys of the wealthy.

FRAZER-NASH NAMIR BY GIUGIARO The fastest and most ecological hybrid in the world

Namir is a concept car born of the collaboration between Italdesign Giugiaro and Frazer-Nash, a company specialized in the design, construction, and marketing of hybrid systems deeply rooted in the historical automotive manufacturing company founded in England by Archie Frazer-Nash in 1923.

Presented during the 79th edition of the International Motor Show in Geneva, Namir represents the turning of a new page in the book being written by the Torino-based firm since 2004, opening with the Alessandro Volta project and followed up with the commemorative dream car – Quaranta - the result of research and development on sports cars fuelled by hybrid systems produced last year in celebration of the 40th anniversary of the company's founding.
The Arabian name Namir, meaning "tiger", sums up the main features of the concept car: elegance and power, aggressiveness and litheness of lines. Without any doubt it is a sports car: a coupé with two bucket seats and an accurate equilibrium between style and mechanics, aesthetics and contents. The sophisticated mechanics as well as the avant-garde electric and electronics systems are wrapped up into an aggressive package with an exquisitely balanced proportion of volumes and a stunning contrast between the sharp accents of the rear end and the sinuous front lines that emphasise this supercar's performance: over 300 km/h (187 mph) at maximum speed and an acceleration of 0 to 100 km/h in 3.5 seconds and from 0 to 200km/h in 10.4 seconds, making this the fastest hybrid car in the world.
Namir is also an ecological vehicle. The hybrid system developed together with Frazer-Nash combines an 814 cc endothermic rotary engine with four electric motors, guaranteeing autonomy of 39 km with one litre of fuel CO2 emissions of less than 60 grams per km travelled.

Namir is not merely an exercise in style in and of itself, but rather a fully developed project followed in each and every phase by the Torino-based firm: chassis, body, and mechanical layout were designed and constructed by the Engineering Division, the exterior and interior style was entrusted to the Italdesign Giugiaro Style Centre, while the electrical and electronic elements were developed in collaboration with Frazer-Nash.

The prototype was built entirely in the Italdesign Giugiaro plant.

A lot. But the car's now debuted at the Geneva Motor Show and it's gorgeous. Seriously.

We weren't expecting the Essence Concept to be this staggeringly interesting. Let's get one thing out of the way real quick, that grille stings the eyes, but other than that, sweet mercy is this is a gorgeous machine. The little coves at the rear of the glass work much better than we thought, and combined with the otherwise classic touring-car proportions and glass roof, this car is a looker (as long as you don't look it in the mouth). Inside and out Infiniti really hit one out of the park, they even managed to slide in a Kaiser-like rollout trunk bed. Very slick. Inside the car is lavished with Alcantara, leather and machined aluminum as well as etched crystal and holographic gauges, you know, concept car stuff. Then there's those Vuitton bags, oh well, can't win em all. Of course, this being a show car, it features a hybrid powertrain which will undoubtedly make it into future Nissan and Infiniti projects, but nobody will talk about that because they'll be gawking at the body work.

INFINITI ESSENCE: THE MAGNIFICATION OF "INSPIRED PERFORMANCE"

ROLLE, Switzerland (March 3, 2009) - The essence of the Infiniti brand distilled into one car and then taken to the extremes to satisfy the world's most demanding car enthusiasts ... this is the Infiniti Essence.

Presented as a concept at the 79th International Motor Show of Geneva, Essence is a celebration of Infiniti and its 20 years history as a creator of performance cars. But equally it is an inspiring exploration into the brand's future.

The dramatic design, technology and performance statement is a 600PS, petrol/electric hybrid coupe with rear-wheel drive. What Essence is not is merely an indulgent birthday present from Infiniti to itself.

This concept embodies Infiniti's core values as an inspiration for the future as much a celebration of the past. Essence showcases many of the technologies, including hybrid, and design cues that will distinguish Infiniti production cars of the coming years. And by steering Infiniti's guiding principle of "Inspired Performance" into the super-performance, super-luxury coupe market for the first time, it reaffirms Infiniti's place among the world's most exclusive and vibrant car brands.

ESSENCE: AN OVERVIEW
• A front-engined, two-seat, 600PS luxury coupe concept, 4.7m long
• First motor show preview of Infiniti's petrol/electric hybrid drivetrain
• Capable of vast speeds where conditions allow, zero emissions where they don't
• Rear-wheel drive for maximum driver involvement
• Fresh design language to influence future production models
• Previews new safety technology including Back-up Collision Prevention
• Minimalist and intensely driver-focused interior
• "New luxury" meets traditional Japanese craftsmanship
• Bespoke Louis Vuitton fitted luggage to maximise trans-continental capability

ESSENCE: THE CONCEPT
"An Essence owner is characterized by his or her fearless self confidence; he or she is an intellectual hero rather than just a successful money maker."
Francois Bancon, General Manager Advanced Product Planning

Essence began life not in the design studio but in Infiniti's product planning department. Francois Bancon, General Manager Advanced Product Planning, and his team might not, at the start of the project, have known how Essence would look, but they did know what it had to be, why it had to exist – and who it would appeal to.

"Essence is a brand icon," Francois Bancon said. "It is driven more by a conceptual approach than by any design execution. It is not just an object. It isn't a teaser for a new model. It is solely dedicated to Infiniti brand promotion, to demonstrate and advocate the Infiniti unique values."

The concept called for a very clear understanding of who the super-luxury coupe's potential customers would be. Painstakingly, Bancon and his team of advanced product planners built up a picture of a typical Essence owner. It was a profile that showed an uncompromising, risk-taking 42-year-old passionate about the best things in life, but equally passionate about not flaunting them. "These consumers don't need to demonstrate to others," said Bancon. "They are already at the next step of achievement that leads to rewarding themselves first."

Francois Bancon went on: "We wanted a new way of mixing various ingredients to get a car that was reserved but with a big presence, something trendy but also indicating the next trend. We wanted a car that aspired to become a cult. It had to be exclusive, smart and mysterious. For the driver, it had to sum up the six-word essence of Essence:

Everything I want, nothing I don't

ESSENCE IN DETAIL

1. DESIGN: DYNAMIC ADEYAKA

"The design embeds a sense of mystery, a sense of being in the know. Essence is not about showing signs of wealth and success."

Shiro Nakamura, Senior Vice President of Design

With breathtaking good looks and perfect proportions, Essence exerts a powerful pull on all those who love cars. It looks like a driver's car, one that would be right at home spearing down the world's grandest motoring routes.

But Essence is no aggressive sports car. Infiniti's "Dynamic Adeyaka" attitude ensures Essence is single-minded, but also inviting, sophisticated and born of inspiration from both the human and natural worlds. To further boost its emotional appeal, it features details that bring a very modern take to some very old Japanese traditions.

The designers' aim was to merge all existing Infiniti design cues with fresh design language in a shape that the 20-year-old marque has never before attempted. The result is highly sculptural yet also very delicate. Essence speaks of power but not intimidation.

The bonnet is, as you would expect of an Infiniti, long, and the rear deck short. Together with a flowing "wave" profile between muscular front and rear wheelarches, Essence at first appears to be in the classic sports car mould. But there is nothing retro about Essence.

The side window graphics bring a particularly innovative and distinctive edge to the styling. The window appears to be resting on a ledge, its razor sharp line in contrast to the concave sweep of the upper body just below it. Imagine juxtaposing flowing water with the stark outline of a canyon landscape.

The rear section also features complex surfacing with concave "scoops" that flow down the rear pillars from one of Essence's most distinctive design cues: a C-shaped kink to the side windows' trailing edge. Outlined by a wide flourish of stainless steel, it adds instant movement to the car even when it is standing still.

One of the most distinctive details is the trim around the side air vents. The simple yet delicate shape, finely finished in aluminium, is based on the "kanzashi", a hairpin used by women when wearing the kimono. Other lines and details are inspired by the wide brush strokes of Japanese calligraphy. Essence represents a successful merging of iconic cultural cues with automotive aesthetics.

Essence's front is characterised by Infiniti's signature double-arch grille, set at an angle that suggests the car is about to leap forward. There is an illuminated Infiniti badge at its heart. Rounded corners effectively hide the front overhang and make this 4.7m-long car appear anything but big in the flesh.

The grille is framed by subtle strips of stainless steel but there's little other trim and no other grilles or intakes, not even foglights. At the front as over the rest of the car, Essence eschews superfluous body embellishments that could interrupt the graceful strength of the whole. The door handles are slithers of push buttons flush with the body while even rear-view mirrors must make way for minuscule cameras teased out of the A-pillars.

More familiar Infiniti cues include the lights. At the front the signature L-shaped modules taper back on to the bulging guards, picked out at their top edge by a row of LEDs. Slender fillets of red light curve around the car at the back, overlapping with the boot opening and framing the vestigial spoiler. Edged by more stainless steel, the spoiler appears to have been pushed out from within the car.

The windscreen flows back into a full glass roof that then tapers down towards the boot opening – making just one more memorable view of a car that doesn't have a wrong angle to it.

On design, Essence is simple and amazingly complex, classical and totally dynamic all at the same time. Most of all as the epitome of "dynamic adeyaka" it boasts massive presence. Once seen, never forgotten.

2. INTERIOR: DRIVER-FOCUSED
"Detailed artistic expression and the rich warmth of the human hand go far beyond mechanical precision."
Shiro Nakamura, Senior Vice President of Design

For a driver's car, the perfect driver's cabin. Essence's interior is minimalist, ergonomic and totally focused on the job in hand: to give the person behind the wheel a feeling of absolute control. And yet all this driver focus goes hand in hand with a passenger area dominated by comfort, calm and elegance to offer the kind of hospitality that is so important to the Japanese people, and also to Essence.

The asymmetrical cabin is divided into two areas separated by a large curving console between the seats that sweeps around to merge with the centre of the dashboard. The result is two very distinct cocoons. The driver's side is themed black, the passenger's "cocoon" an earthy red.

A flat-bottomed steering wheel and chronometer-style dials announce to the driver this is a serious performance machine. There are no gimmicks or sci-fi solutions here, just single-minded dedication to driving. Witness the technical nature of the displays, the short, alloy-topped gear selector and, just in front of it another finger-flick away, the bright red engine start button.

The car wraps itself around the driver who can quickly relax with the Infiniti trademarks of supportive seat and perfect driving position. There are more Infiniti cues such as the big gearchange paddle shifters behind the wheel and the analogue clock in the centre of the dash.

Infiniti designers believe the best functionality works behind the scenes, appearing only when needed. They call this "hidden tech", and it's the key to the functional minimalism that dominates the control layout. By not baffling drivers with buttons or overburdening them with information, Essence offers a sense of well-being to everyone, allowing them to focus entirely on enjoying the energizing driving experience.

With the materials used – leather, Alcantara, hand-painted wood inspired by traditional Japanese lacquerware – the cabin exudes a rich and inviting warmth. Attention to detail is such that even the leather seams on the seat backs differ from left side to right side. Why? So they can accurately reflect the way Japanese men and women tie their kimonos.

Essence's interior promotes a sense of well-being which is key to the Infiniti driving experience.

3. DRIVETRAIN: POWER WITH RESPONSIBILITY
"Infiniti's performance feel has been captured as natural dynamism, like energy rising from within."
Francois Bancon, General Manager Advanced Product Planning

Essence's drivetrain is designed to meet the highest expectations of owners by delivering the one thing everyone expects of an Infiniti – sheer driving pleasure. In Essence that pleasure is taken to new heights, at the same time as previewing an innovative green hybrid engine.

Essence is unusual even in the rarefied atmosphere of the world's fastest road cars by being able to call on a mighty 600PS (592bhp). The power guarantees high performance responses on any road, in any situation. Essence is not, however, an intimidating sports racer. Like the design, the performance is designed to be sophisticated and unobtrusive – performance with a human touch.

The hybrid system is a logical extension of Infiniti parent group's groundbreaking green commitments. It offers power with efficiency, and high performance with zero-emissions running, by combining a petrol engine with an electric motor. These can work independently or together as a "parallel" hybrid system.

In congested urban areas, the electric motor alone is all that is needed for Essence to glide silently between stoplights, with no tailpipe emissions.

When the traffic clears, Essence responds with a highway performance that few cars could match. In "power assist" mode the full 600PS is unleashed with both petrol and electric power working together.

A key difference over some other hybrid systems is that both the V6 and the electric motor feed their power only to the rear wheels. Performance is more linear, response is crisper – and driving pleasure further enhanced – as a result.

Infiniti's familiar 3.7-litre V6 gasoline engine is fitted with twin turbochargers, boosting power to 440PS (434bhp). A new direct-injection fuel system ensures the engine works more efficiently than ever in Essence.

Essence previews a new type of electric motor, called 3D Motor, that was designed to meet tough requirements on size and power output. The result is a particularly slim, disk-shaped motor that has twice the torque of a conventional unit. Its design was achieved by 3D magnetic field analysis to optimize the layout of the electromagnetic coils and permanent magnets.

In Essence, the motor is positioned between the engine and transmission and provides 160PS (158bhp), drawing power from a compact lithium-ion battery pack in the boot area. Because the 3D Motor operates in both propulsion and power regeneration modes, the battery pack is kept charged up.

Optimized energy useage across the widest possible range of driving conditions is guaranteed by two separate clutches which "switch in" the motors as required. It is a system that needs no torque converter, further enhancing responsiveness and driving pleasure.

4. SAFETY: A COLLISION-FREE FUTURE
On a global level, Infiniti is committed to building safer vehicles equipped with advanced safety technologies.

Essence previews some of the next-generation safety features that will ensure Infiniti cars remain among the safest on the road. Chief among them is a "Safety Shield" that goes a long way towards the Infiniti engineers' dream of a collision-free car.

The Safety Shield adds two new technologies to the Distance Control Assist (DCA) and Lane Departure Prevention (LDP) systems that are available in today's production Infinitis. Side Collision Prevention (SCP) and Back-up Collision Prevention (BCP) extend the anti-collision shield all the way around the car.

With SCP, when the driver decides to change lanes, side-mounted sensors activate a warning if an approaching vehicle is detected in the driver's intended lane. A yaw mechanism is then activated through brake control of individual wheels to help prevent a potential collision. Back-up Collision Prevention works in a similar way, sensing a vehicle behind, giving the driver a warning but then, if the warning is not heeded, activating the brakes automatically.

The warning system and pre-emptive safety features are designed to help support the driver in an intuitive manner with minimal intervention.

5. PRACTICALITY: A VERY BESPOKE SOLUTION
The team behind Essence harked back to an early motoring era to find the right solution for carrying luggage. The result is as classy as luggage ever gets, surprisingly practical and dreamily romantic. It also re-establishes the historic ties between a carmaker and one of the best-known names in luxury goods – Louis Vuitton.

Vuitton first worked with a coachbuilder – the famous Kellner company – in 1908, equipping one of their early luxury limousines with a set of bespoke luggage. Other coachbuilders quickly beat a path to Vuitton's door in Paris. Made-to-measure Vuitton trunks were an integral feature of some of the greatest cars of the first part of the 20th century.

The collaboration between Infiniti and Vuitton revives the idea of a set of the highest quality luggage made to fit exactly a car's boot area. In Essence there are three rigid pieces: a matched pair of slender briefcases atop a large trunk. All are made in the new Damier Graphite canvas and feature sleekly integrated handles and an overall design in harmony with the car itself.

There is hi-tech, too. A button on the key fob electrically opens the boot lid, allowing the boot floor to slide silently rearwards. This is one boot an owner will never have to struggle to access.

In a nod at tradition, the cases even bear the initials of their owner – SN, standing for Shiro Nakamura, Senior Vice President of Design.

6. INFINITI: 20 YEARS OF PERFORMANCE CARS

The Essence has been 20 years in the making. For that is how long the essence of the marque – its very being, a distillation of everything that Infiniti stands for – has taken to reach its current state of perfection.

The idea behind Infiniti was first discussed in 1985 but it wasn't until November 1989 that the first Infiniti model was sold in North America. Today it is the fastest growing luxury brand in the US.

But it is also far more than just a US brand. Today Infiniti has more than 230 dealers in 15 countries with worldwide sales of 150,000 annually.

Infiniti's success is down to many things, not least the "Dynamic Adeyaka" attitude behind every Infiniti model. When Adeyaka meets The Total Ownership Experience the result is the three pillars of Infiniti: driving pleasure, hospitality and peace of mind.

All these values are perfectly summed up by Essence which is revealed at the Geneva Motor Show of 2009 not only to coincide with the marque's 20th anniversary, but also in the midst of the brand's current challenge: to take on the European market.

Think again. It's now gussied up with blue paint, "solar panels" and a crazy interior straight from Tron.

The iMiEV Sport Air's aluminum frame allows weight to be limited to just 2,072 pounds. The motor gets a bump from the base-model iMiEV's 47 kW to 60 kW, helping acceleration and range, climbing from 100 miles to 120 miles.

Although for us, the story is the appearance — Mitsubishi's matched an exterior that isn't sure whether it's coming or going with an interior that seems to be at home in any techno club. It almost as though the styling studio decided to go crazy with the imaginary interior gadgetry and blue neon accents, so much so that it looks like a sci-fi wet dream. Okay, Mitsubishi, we get it, you're quirky little electric car that looks the same coming as it does going is futuristic, sheesh. Beat us over the head with it why don't ya?

Dacia Duster: Every Concept Buzzword At Once

This is the Dacia Duster concept and it's bringing a totally original, unprecedented suicide-door sport activity youth-market crossover utility design with headlights stretching to the doors to Geneva. Yes, it's a rolling modern design cliche.

The Duster Concept embodies all the best thinking of the late 90's wrapped in a smoothly passive-aggressive shape. It marries the large body envelope and undeniable efficiency of an SUV with the pandering "X-treme" lifestyle marketing mantra of a different era. Anyone else get the feeling Dacia had this concept sitting around collecting dust in a warehouse and thought "Hey. we never used that show car, how about now?" It falls so far outside the current vogue of greenwashed fantasy-electric ecogasmic concepts it's going to look really awkward on the stands.

DUSTER: THE CONCEPT CROSSOVER FROM DACIA UNVEILED AT GENEVA MOTORSHOW

• Dacia is breaking fresh ground and springs yet another surprise with the unveiling in Geneva
of Duster, a futuristic, image-building crossover that promotes the same values for which the
brand has stood from the beginning.

• Duster is Dacia's first concept car and the fruit of close collaboration between Renault Design
Central Europe in Bucharest, Romania, and Renault Design Technocentre in Guyancourt,
France.

• Duster's athletic stance adds an undeniable sporty feel to the brand's hallmark robustness.

• Inside, the use of colour, generous cabin space and an original modular layout ensure a
particularly convivial ambience for occupants.

ROBUST AND SPORTY

Duster – Dacia's first concept crossover – is proud to be different. Seen from the driver's side, it is visibly a
sporting coupé, yet passengers entering from the other side will see it as an MPV (Multi Purpose Vehicle) with
a traditionally opening front door and rear-hinged rear door which suggest plush travelling refinement.

Duster's height of 1.49 metres, short front and rear overhangs (65cm and 80cm respectively), generous
wheelbase (2.80m) and compact volumes (4.25m long, 1.64m wide) exude an overriding sense of robustness
and sports appeal.

The front end features a broad bumper with two horizontal air-intake slits that suggest power. The grille
features evident Dacia styling cues and is flanked by headlamps which wrap over the front wings to form a
tapering line of light that stretches rearward towards the doors.
Viewed from the side, the clear-cut lines of the wheel arches and tall doors reinforce the impression that
Duster sits squarely on the road. The Anthracite Grey bodywork and extensive one-piece glazed sweep –
made possible by the absence of a central pillar – highlights the styling of the sides which are unmistakably
reminiscent of Duster's graphic identity.
At the rear, the engraved Dacia logo further emphasizes the concept car's robust, dependable credentials.

Like Logan, Duster is just 4.25 metres long, and its inherent agility ensures that it is perfectly at home in the
urban jungle. Meanwhile, its 21-inch, five-spoke aluminium alloy wheels, exterior mirrors positioned on the
window surround and trapezoidal aluminium exhaust tailpipes are telltale signs of its sporting pedigree.

Special care has gone into Duster's aerodynamic efficiency (Cd: 0.30) and the fluid lines of the body sides
enable air to flow freely along the vehicle's flanks before being jettisoned through the rear lights. The
aerodynamic, wing-like forms of the roof-mounted direction indicators also channel airflow towards the rear.
The sum of all this work has naturally been beneficial to fuel consumption, and Duster stands out as a
particularly environmentally-respectful crossover. Despite its performance potential, the particulate filter-
equipped 1.5 dCi 105hp engine (77kW) emits just 139g of CO2/km, equivalent to fuel consumption of 5.3
litres/100km.

A CROSSOVER WITH DACIA HALLMARKS

This futuristic crossover showcases the brand's core values – namely simplicity, robustness and authenticity –
in a surprising form, yet Dacia's hallmark ingenuity and generosity are immediately apparent in the way
designers have approached Duster's cabin.

The concept car's two-tone chocolate and blue interior exudes a sense of well-being and conviviality. The fully
glazed roof floods the cabin with light, while the enveloping forms of the staggered slim-line front seats
provide first class comfort and support. The driver's seat is incorporated in a structure which extends all the
way from the sill to the centre console, forming a sculptural, one-piece ensemble that echoes the exterior's
sporty appeal.

The user-friendly dashboard features fluid, expressive lines while employing simple materials. The driver's
side front airbag is housed in the lower part of the steeringwheel which has made it possible to position the
screen centrally and free up appreciable stowage space on the dashboard. The latter's receding lines also
provide record kneeroom of 280mm for the front passenger who benefits from an exceptionally comfortable
seating position. The bellows-like form of the original two-tone dashboard incorporates a 20-litre glovebox,
while the door inserts each include eight-litre stowage bins. Another bin has been cleverly concealed in the
back of the rear right-hand seat. A simple push causes a box to slide forward from the boot which itself is in
total keeping with the Dacia spirit, with the upright tailgate providing a carrying capacity of 470dm3 (VDA), a
remarkable achievement for a vehicle of Duster's compact overall dimensions .

Duster is an adaptable, modular concept car. The four-seat 'daily driver' layout can be swiftly converted into a
leisure configuration in a matter of seconds. The passenger seat slides underneath the driver's seat on rails
concealed in the floor to leave just one front seat and consequently free up a total carrying volume of two
cubic metres. Thanks to a recess in the floor and a strap located under the dashboard, this space can be
used to carry a trials mountain bike.

Aside from being more boring than damp dirt, the Verso is a seven passenger mini-minivan based on the Corolla chassis and powered by a 1.6 and 1.8 liter gasoline engines or 2.0 and 2.4 liter diesels, all mated to a six-speed automatic gauranteed to strangle any pretense of driver involvement. All dimensions have been increased and fold flat seats have been engineered to make storing large cargo easier. May God have mercy on your soul if you're actually interested in this vehicle.
Bentley Continental Supersports: 204 MPH Green Machine

Bentley Continental Supersports is the "the fastest, most powerful and greenest Bentley ever" and has the 621 HP twin-turbo W12 to prove it. How does a top speed of 204 MPH on E85 sound?

This Bentley has been on the teaser circuit for the last few weeks and now we've gotten the full monty. What we see on the outside is a more aggressive interpretation of the Bentley Continental GT Speed trimmed in a stark white paint job over giant black chrome wheels and a blood red interior. The looks may be one thing, but the powertrain is on a whole different level, besting even the GT Speed's previously mind-blowing figures.

Under the bonnet of the Supersports lurks a stonking 6.0 liter twin turbocharged W12 capable of sucking down regular fuel or E85 ethanol, allowing for Bentley to tout their green credentials, which is nauseatingly de rigeur these days. No matter, as it sucks down enough of whatever fuel you throw at it to develop 621 HP, 590 lb-ft of torque and boast acceleration figures in the realm of ridiculous for a car this size: 3.7 seconds 0-to-60 MPH and 8.9 seconds 0-to-100 MPH.

All the power gets backed up with gigantic ceramic brakes and weight reduction which trims 243 lbs off the curb weight, they even tossed out the superfluous rear <del>shelves</del> seat. It still comes with an automatic transmission, but it's been tuned to return 50% faster shifts and allow skipping gears when downshifting.

Think of it like a Lamborghini Reventon for guys who don't wear gold chains and display forested chest hair. Look for the Continental Supersports to be revealed next week somewhere in the massive halls of the Geneva Motor Show.

BENTLEY ANNOUNCES CONTINENTAL SUPERSPORTS – THE FASTEST, MOST POWERFUL AND GREENEST BENTLEY EVER
Several weeks ago we showed you an advance photo of our newest product and announced that it would be the fastest and most powerful Bentley ever created. Today we'd like to provide you with an advance look at the full design and specification of the vehicle that will be called the Bentley Continental Supersports.

This new model importantly will be the first Bentley capable of running on both gasoline and biofuel, pioneering the use of FlexFuel technology in the luxury sector.

A copy of the full press release on Continental Supersports is attached as background. Key aspects of the new Continental Supersports include:

• 6-liter W12 twin-turbocharged engine now produces 621bhp and 590 lb ft of torque
• 0 – 60 mph in 3.7 seconds / 0 -100 mph in 8.9 seconds
• Top speed of 204 mph
• Capable of running on gasoline and E85 biofuel or any combination of the two
• Offers a reduction in CO2 emissions of up to 70% (well-to-wheel), a measure of a fuel's net contribution to the atmosphere, not just tailpipe emissions
• Revised transmission with ‘Quickshift' system that cuts shift times by 50% and enables double downshifts
• Standard-fit carbon-ceramic brakes – the largest and most powerful brakes ever fitted to a production car
• 243 lb weight saving compared to Continental GT Speed
• Unique driver-focused, two-seater cabin with rear seats replaced by stowage deck with carbon fiber luggage retaining beam
• New flared rear wings that accommodate the 2 inch wider rear track

Speedy electric cars are old-hat by now with the occasionally produced Tesla Roadster being first to market, but an all-wheel-drive EV is something new. The LAMPO takes advantage of two electric motors, one front, one rear, to translate energy from the 32 kWh lithium ion batteries into motive power. It does all the other tricks an EV does like regenerative braking, fast charging on high voltage and such, but it's where that power comes which makes the LAMPO a novel concept.

Protocar claims the LAMPO concept is mated to a solar power plant in Seggiano, Tuscany capable of 16 kilowatts peak output. The power is fed to the grid system and offsets energy used by the cars instead of being powered off the non-renewable tainted general power system. "But Jalopnik..." you say, "if the cars have 32 kWh batteries, doesn't that mean the plant will only be able to charge one car in optimum conditions in two hours, and transmission losses will mean it will take even longer to charge just one car completely by solar power?"

Sssshhhhhh, pay no attention to the man behind the curtain. Expect to see complete details on what is more than likely some very nicely greenwashed vaporware when it debuts next week at the Geneva Motor Show.

Protoscar unveils the unique features of "LAMPO": the electric sporty showcar powered by renewable energy.
Protoscar SA will unveil LAMPO - a full size sport cabriolet - at the next Geneva Motor Show on March 2nd, 2009 (stand 5141 in the e-mobile area). LAMPO is powered by two BRUSA electric motors (one rear and one front), optimized for maximizing acceleration and regenerative braking respectively. They deliver a total output of 268 HP and a torque of over 440 Nm. The lightweight Lithium-Ion battery pack with a capacity of 32 kWh allows for a range of over 200 km. LAMPO shows that also a zero-emission electric vehicle can offer the same performance as a traditional sporty car.

The primary energy source used for charging the LAMPO has been in existence for more than 4.5 billion years and has demonstrated to be rather reliable: it's the sun. The exploitation of solar energy for LAMPO is possible thanks to a 16 kWp photovoltaic plant located in Seggiano, Tuscany.

Never before a premium driving pleasure like the one of the LAMPO has been achieved at such an optimal level of overall "Well-to-Wheel" energy efficiency - and zero emissions. However, even if the LAMPO was "filled up" with today's
particularly clean Swiss electricity mix, the WtW CO2 emissions of this vehicle would only account for about 7 g/km! Considering the EU electricity mix projection scenario for 2020, elaborated by Eurelectric, the WtW CO2 emission would still be limited to about 40 g/km.

Through the showcar LAMPO, Protoscar and its partners aim to demonstrate new technologies which include absolute innovations such as "intelligent charging" or interactive GPS-based "range estimator" – and discuss potential applications
together with car manufacturers, in order to implement these solutions into their plans for future CleanCars.

In depth Protoscar
Protoscar SA (www.protoscar.com) is a design company founded in 1987 specialized in CleanCars and based in Rovio (Ticino, Switzerland). It presently employs 14 specialists. We act like a "Minergie-architect", but apply the efficiency-concepts to cars, mainly by introducing electrification. Our unique experience and holistic approach allow us not only to develop forward looking strategies and outstanding vehicle concepts, but also to support the market introduction of
CleanCars and the communication activity of these technologies. We are proud to include worldwide companies like Daimler AG, GeneralMotors, Rinspeed-Esoro and Nissan among our faithful clients.

Vehicle‘s name and logo
LAMPO, in the Italian language means "lightning". A lightning stands for power, especially for electric energy like the one propelling LAMPO. Moreover a lightning is fast, intense, impressive and, last but not least, LAMPO is a product of nature. The edgy logo of LAMPO with its straight lines reminds the lightening and emphasizes the
electric spirit of the car.
eQmotion and clean energy
eQmotion (www.eqmotion.ch) is a "philosophy", made reality by a consortium of companies supporting and implementing EV-projects. Actually this pool is developing exciting innovative full electric vehicles.

The name eQmotion is an acronym composed by:
• electric
• Quotient (of electrification) / Quality
• motion

Our showcars shall have an eQ of 100: we want to drive 100% electrically, trying to overcome the "compromises" in terms of Well to Wheel emissions and efficiency. Also, driving cars - and particularly electric vehicles - has a lot to do with e(Q)motions. We pursue a high vehicle and component Quality relying on most recent technical standards and innovations, in order to maximize emotional driving pleasure. The label eQmotion has been created by BRUSA Elektronik AG and Protoscar SA and will be used on different EV-projects. The first two showcars realized under this label are
Spyder and LAMPO. The eQmotion philosophy integrates of course energetic considerations. We are not just
realizing zero emission vehicles, but we care about the energy needed to let them move. In other words we look at the entire energy chain that a vehicle requires: this is the so called "Well-to-Wheel" (see file "WtW_Definitions.jpg"). On the entire energy chain the attention is focused on the reduction of CO2 emissions. The energy used by these vehicles
comes from 100% renewable energy sources (solar energy in LAMPO's case).

The exploitation of solar power has been possible thanks to a remote 16 kWh photovoltaic plant located in Seggiano (Tuscany) in the facility of the farmhouse of Vitabella Palazzetto (www.vitabella-palazzetto.com). The energy produced by this system is put into the global grid and charged into LAMPO's batteries not perforce where the photovoltaic plant is located. The goal is to self-produce all the energy that we need for the car getting to counterbalance the entire consumption (see file "Electricity_Management.jpg"). Never before a premium driving pleasure like the one of the LAMPO has been possible at such a level of overall "Well-to-Wheel" energy efficiency (see file "Comparison_WtW.jpg").

Innovative top-down approach
With LAMPO we clearly apply a top-down approach, instead of a bottom-up strategy. In fact, the automobile sector is normally based on this approach which consists in initially showing trendy characteristics in exclusive, premium, vehicles. Unavoidably, at first the price of such products is very high but with growing production the prices decrease,
allowing a large number of people to have access to the new technology (in other words the first buyers allow the technology to circulate). In the electric vehicles market the approach - still very often - is viceversa based on a bottom-up approach. This is the reason why electric vehicles are not always very successful. In today's market the majority of the EV promoters try to sell electric cars as a "rational vehicle" and forget the emotional aspects. But as a matter of fact, for most buyers a car is essentially an emotional object and not only a means of transport. The LAMPO shall demonstrate that electric drivetrains can be perceived positively and totally accepted if placed and launched in a different way.

Unique features
The research and practical presentation of new, more efficient energy features is carried out in cooperation with various partners and relates to several areas:
Intelligent charging system
Some charging parameters like the earliest charging time/last charging stop, max.
Charging yield and charging status to be achieved by the end of charging, will regulate the onboard chargers.

The user of the vehicle is able to choose and set - directly in the vehicle - some charging parameters which will control the onboard battery charger, e.g.
- Earliest charging time/ latest charging stop
- Maximum charging yield
- Charging status to be achieved by end of the charging

Accelerated charge (for public and private charging points)
With today's European energy supply standard (typically 240V and 10 to 16Amps) the charging time for an EV vehicle like the LAMPO is around 12 hours (considering a 16Amps plug): the typical available overnight time. In fact, with a small extra-investment, this time could be half: with very small adaptations (basically 2,5 mm2 cable instead of 1,5 mm2
connections, and a little on/off electronic switch avoiding current-flow during the plug-in action) a 16Amps plug easily can be upgraded to deliver 32Amps, meaning a power of 7 kW. The resulting charging time will then still not be as fast as for liquid fuels, but interesting enough for significantly recharging the batteries over lunch or shopping time,
and allowing a shifting of the charging time – during nights - into periods where energy is available over-abundantly. Such energy supply optimizations are studied and developed in association with Alpiq (www.alpiq.com), the Swiss energy leader.

Public charging & payment system
Several highly sophisticated public charging stations, including power metering and billing per chip cards or other techniques, have been proposed recently, yet their relatively high investment cost - causing also high cost per kWh delivered - does not facilitate their widespread application. In order to avoid high cost of metering and billing the "Park & Charge" concept has been created (www.ecs-five.ch/parkcharge/d/index.htm). It is a very simple system, and it is
based on a lump-sum payment, combining low investment cost with low operation cost – exactly like it happens with the well known yearly "sticker" allowing to pay for the use of Swiss highways. This service is offered by the Swiss Electric Vehicle Association (ECS) and has been in operation for over 10 years, counting 600 charging points all over
Switzerland. At the moment, in EU, there are 1346 public charging points: over 100 of them are "Park and Charge". A detailed list of public charging points in Switzerland and Europe is available at: www.lemnet.org.

EVA Range estimator
For a battery-driven vehicle the accuracy of the possible autonomy is absolutely important, and with a simple 0 -100% indicator, it is impossible to determine. This depends on several highly variable factors, e.g. topography (upward/downward slopes) or environmental temperature. These variances should be included in the residual autonomy indication – but they are not considered in today's EVs. Thanks to an interactive advanced navigation system, a LAMPO driver is provided with the following information:- "radar graph" of the residual range integrated with standard navigation capabilities- charging station location - advanced long-distance trip planning which incorporates charging time and recommended locations. The EVA system is being developed in cooperation with Virve, W&B (www.virve.ch).

All wheel drive for max. regenerative braking & safety
When accelerating, the load is shifted to the rear axle while in braking it moves to the front axle. More load is on an axle, more successfully the traction can be transferred to the wheels. If the two electric motors can have differential tasks (primarily to pull or primarily to regenerate) the total efficiency of the vehicle can be considerably increased. This is
exactly what we will demonstrate and – thanks to axles which can be singularly disconnected – also tested for comparison. This optimized traction system has been conceived, developed and implemented together with the company BRUSA (www.brusa.biz).

Kia's No 3 Concept is a 13.1-foot-long stubby little commuter swathed in stylish Europeany-ness. A giant glass roof, enormous rims, and fancy HID headlights are all things which will be stripped away in the production version set to debut in Frankfurt in the fall as the Kia YN (yes-no?). It will keep the overall shape, the Kia Soul-inspired grille and front end, and the efficient five passenger packaging layout.

Also at the Kia stands will be an updated version of the Magentis, which we know as the Optima, a new production variant of the Kia C'eed equipped with a start/stop system with the 1.4-liter four cylinder and a Kia C'eed Hybrid which will see limited production for European fleet evaluation purposes. Guess they don't want the go too fast with this weird "hybrid" fad all the kids are talking about these days.

All-new MPV Concept heads Kia line-up at Geneva
Kia will be displaying an all-new MPV concept, a range of Idle Stop & Go cars and an innovative Hybrid at the 79th Salon International de l'Auto which opens in Geneva on 3 March. There will be a total of 18 vehicles on the Kia stand [Stand 5231, Hall 5] including three models making their first appearance in Switzerland – the Kia Soul, upgraded 2009 Kia Sportage compact SUV and upgraded, new-look 2009 Kia Magentis sedan.

Kia No 3 Concept Car
All-new, the Kia No 3 Concept Car redefines the small MPV genre by creating a beautiful car that is also fun-to-drive. The concept features a unique extended windscreen and panorama glass roof with a diagonal supporting bar, an automatic sun visor and the new 'face of Kia' displays the front grille, head lamps and brand logo in a new constellation. The 4045 mm long concept is finished in matt Titanium Grey with contrasting gloss-white accents.

Kia cee'd ISG
The new Kia cee'd ISG (Idle Stop & Go) models, which offer up to 15% fuel savings in city driving, are now on sale in many countries across Europe. Kia's innovative ISG system automatically switches the engine off when the car is stopped in traffic and restarts the engine instantly when the driver wishes to move off. Kia cee'd ISG cars are available with a choice of 1.4-litre and 1.6-litre gasoline engines and each of the three cee'd family bodystyles – five-door hatchback, five-door sporty wagon and three-door pro_cee'd. The 1.4-litre ISG models at Geneva have a 137 g/km CO2 rating.

Kia cee'd Hybrid
Kia Motors has produced a fleet of prototype Kia cee'd Hybrid cars especially for testing and evaluation in Europe. The cee'd Hybrid uses an upgraded powertrain with Kia's Gamma 1.6-litre gasoline engine, mated to a 15kW, 105 Nm AC synchronisedelectric motor, a CVT transmission and the new ISG (Idle Stop & Go) system. Kia
calculates that the cee'd Hybrid accelerates to 100 kph in 11.8 seconds and can reach a top speed of 185 kph. The prototype achieves fuel consumption of 4.81 litres per 100 km and a CO2 figure of 109 g/km – down 25% compared to the standard 1.6-litre gasoline cee'd.

Maserati Gran Turismo S Automatic Headed For Geneva, Convertible To Follow

Love the idea of additional power in the Maserati Gran Turismo S but hate shifting boring old-timey transmissions? Good news! Maserati will be mating a six-speed auto to the 440 HP, 4.7 liter V8.

Until this point, the bigger, badder V8 only got an electronically actuated auto or a row-your-own transmission, leaving the auto to the weaker 4.2 liter V8. Now the trident throwers at Maserati are swapping in a ZF 6 speed auto for those too excited by involving transmissions.

In addition to the transmission news, Motor Trend is reporting the drop top version of the Gran Turismo will be popping up at the 2009 Geneva Motor Show so now you can get the drop dead gorgeous GT with a the open air driving of a drop top. We'll be looking forward to seeing that little gem when it hits the stands.

MASERATI GRANTURISMO S AUTOMATIC TO BE UNVEILED AT THE GENEVA AUTO SHOW

Modena, February 23rd, 2009 – True to Maserati's commitment to introduce a new model at each international car show, the GranTurismo S Automatic will première at the next Geneva Auto Show. The new Maserati GranTurismo S Automatic features a 4.7 V8 which develops 440hp (323kW) at 7000rpm. The maximum torque is 490Nm at 4,750rpm.

The major novelty is the combination of the automatic transmission with the most powerful wet sump Maserati V8 on the GranTurismo – until now offered as 4.2 l with automatic transmission and 4.7 l with an electro-actuated gearbox. Thanks to the combination of the 323kW produced by the powerful 4.7l V8 engine and the smoothness of the ZF 6-speed automatic gearbox, the Maserati GranTurismo S Automatic remains consistent with the original granturismo concept while at the same time offering peak performance.

The gearshift strategy applied to the Maserati GranTurismo S Automatic inherits some widely appreciated elements of the Quattroporte Sport GT S, such as the elimination of the kick-down in Manual mode.

The Skyhook suspension system featuring continuously adjustable dampers provides great driving comfort. Passive safety is further enhanced thanks to the introduction on the GranTurismo range of a new generation passenger air-bag with Low Risk Deployment functionality.

Consistent with the unmistakable design of all Maseratis, the Maserati GranTurismo S Automatic features some marked stylistic differences which make it immediately recognisable: the new under-door mini-skirts featuring a prominent shape, which enhances the dynamism of its profile and the new 20" wheel rims with "Trident" design, which recall the strength and elegance of the car.

A further enriched equipment increases the on board pleasure for the driver and the three passengers, thanks to the Bluetooth® Wireless Technology, offered as standard, and the iPod® interface, available upon request, which complete the Maserati Multi Media System.

Alfa Romeo MiTo GTA Concept Headed For Geneva Motor Show

For car buyers in the US, the Alfa Romeo MiTo is a lusty Italian and unavailable tease. Now the Alfa Romeo MiTo GTA Concept is debuting at the Geneva Motor Show, making things even worse.

The MiTo GTA Concept takes the swoopy little MiTo and cranks up the speed and style. Weight reduction was a priority with a carbon fiber rear hatch, roof, and mirrors with aluminum used throughout. The car is lowered, with high performance tires and upgraded brakes and more aggressive styling all around. Power comes from a direct injection 1.7 liter four cylinder pounding out 240 HP, for those keeping track that's a ridiculous 137 HP per liter. Should this little puppy ever make production we'll have yet another car to put on the list of necessary gray market imports.

Giugiaro Frazer Nash Concept: World's Fastest Hybrid

We don't know why Giugiaro named this after a long-defunct builder of idiosyncratic British sports cars, but the Frazer Nash concept is looking to become the world's fastest hybrid with a 186 MPH top speed.

Aside from a car which looks more Lamborghini than Targa Florio, the Frazer Nash Concept has a central boast of "World's Fastest Hybrid" with a claimed top speed of 186 MPH. Sort of an odd and probably specific claim around a traditional gasoline-electric passenger category since KERS equipped F1 cars will probably be kinda fast and there have been some pretty quick land speed record hybrids. Semantics aside, the Frazer Nash Concept will debut next month at the 2009 Geneva Motor Show, where it will compete against the Rinspeed iCharge for most lauded one-off engineering exercises.
2010 Audi TT RS: The Super-TT Is Such A Tease

Now, we've got some fire-breathing teaser shots.

The new images don't show as much as the uncamouflaged spy photos from the Nurburgring, but details are beginning to emerge on the super TT, such as a 300-350 horsepower range on a rumored 2.5 liter direct injection turbocharged five cylinder with an undersquare 82.5 mm bore and 92 mm stroke. Should make for a very interesting power band. Performance is expected to include a 0-60 time under five seconds with the Germanically traditional and fun-killing electronically limited 155 MPH top speed. Also expected are further "leaked" and "teaser" images which will make us eventually recoil in annoyance at the sight of the car by the time it's unveiled. Based on the Volkswagen A04 platform also underpinning the VW Polo and SEAT Ibiza, the Skoda Fabia five-door is a fairly conservative car in production form, but here it gets the faux off-roader treatment; tough lower cladding, higher ground clearance, and a much bigger, more aggressive set of wheels and tires. Nothing revolutionary here, but it is a pretty decent looking concept, even without all the concept car design gimmicks. Then GM showed nothing at the Detroit Auto Show. Now we're told the new super-mini will instead debut at the 2009 Geneva Motor Show.

The new Chevy Spark will debut at the Geneva Motor Show alongside a full range of Delta II-platformed vehicles like the Chevy Cruze. But for microcar buyers, there will be only one darling on the stand. The Spark will be introduced with a four cylinder 1.0 liter fuel sipper and a snarling 1.2 liter performance model. It will also show off what looks to be a segment first "respectable" interior — we'll of course have to see such a thing to believe it ourselves. Check out the press release and video below.

CHEVROLET AT THE GENEVA MOTOR SHOW 2009
* All-new Chevrolet Spark makes world debut
* Four-door Cruze range unveiled

There's a Spark promising to light up this year's Geneva Motor Show, and it's to be found on the Chevrolet stand.

The company's all-new mini car goes on sale in Europe later this year and is the latest interpretation of Chevrolet's new global design strategy. As well as Europe, the car will be sold in the USA, India and other core markets, where its compact dimensions and vibrant good looks will appeal to customers.

Powered by a choice of fuel-efficient 1.0 and 1.2-litre petrol engines, the five-door Spark has a distinctive, angular cabin that matches its bold exterior styling – a look that is designed to appeal to young and mature drivers alike.

The head-turning design will be complemented by outstanding passenger space, entertaining driving characteristics and, of course, Chevrolet's tradition for providing extraordinary value for money.

The Geneva show, which is open to the public from March 5-20, will also see the entire Chevrolet Cruze range appearing for the first time. The new four-door saloon was unveiled at the Paris Motor Show in October, and is set to go on sale in the UK in July 2009.

Available with a choice of 1.6 or 1.8-litre petrol engines, plus a 2.0-litre diesel, the Cruze promises excellent dynamics, passenger comfort and build quality, yet will remain a great value for money car in the true Chevrolet mould.

Prices and exact UK specifications will be announced closer to the car's on sale date.[Source: GM]

Citroën DS Inside Concept: The First Glimpse Of A New Citroën

Images of the Citroën DS Inside Concept leaked out the other day, and aside from giving us a peek at the forthcoming Citroën DS3, it also signals a reinvention of Citroën itself.

The Citroën DS Inside Concept will be debuting at the 2009 Geneva Auto Show in March and offers us a peek at the direction the company is going with its just announced, revived DS line, starting with the DS3, the bigger DS4, and top-of-the-line DS5. All these cars will be positioned as a premium alternative to the standard Citroen lineup. We don't have any details on the DS Inside concept at the moment, unfortunately, but it will come in due time. We will say we're a bit disappointed in the styling, given the name's history.

Along with the DS Inside, Citroen is announcing something of a personal reinvention. It has committed to a changed relationship with its dealerships, its customers and a new commitment to product. This reimagination of Citroen begins even with the brand logo, which has been designed as a pair of chrome boomerangs and goes all the way through to redesigned dealerships. On the product front they're saying we should watch out for product influenced by the Citroen Hypnos concept and the Citroen C-Cactus concept. If Citroen manages to follow through on all the promises made in the release below, it should be a pretty significant shift in perception. We'll see if it comes to pass.

A NEW ERA - CITROËN REINVENTS ITSELF

Today, at 90 years of age, and on the birthday of its founder, Andre Citroën, French car manufacturer CITROËN is turning a new page in its history, and begins a global brand project that encompasses a new visual identity, a new relationship with its customers and an exciting new line of automotive products.

In a difficult economic climate, and in a period of changing relationships between customers and brands, CITROËN is taking action and reinventing itself. The Marque aims to pursue the excitement generated by the success of its products launched over the past ten years, by enhancing the CITROËN brand to strengthen and support the range.

New Identity
Developed jointly by CITROËN's Marketing and Styling teams, headed by Jean-Pierre Ploué, and the Landor agency, an international branding and design network, the logo is the first visible sign of change. The chevrons have broken free from their frame and become three-dimensional, gaining in strength and body. Bridging CITROËN's past and future; the colour red is used for the new brand name typography. The red assumes a new, deeper tone.

Brand identity: Créative Technologie
CITROËN strongly recognise the alliance between creativity and technology; being the first to propose Stop & Start technology, on the CITROËN C2 and C3. It also leads the European market with its automated manual gearboxes and has pioneered particulate filters. The Marque illustrated its ecological and economical commitment in 2008 by confirming its European leadership on vehicles emitting 110 g/km of CO2 or less, thanks to the CITROËN C1.

Rather than aiming for pure technological exploits, CITROËN innovates for the benefit of its customers. It invented Hydractive suspension, the wide-angle panoramic windscreen, and new driving aids such as the lane departure warning system. It has also developed new designs with maximum use of space, as seen on its latest new model, the CITROËN C3 Picasso.

CITROËN has the boldness to completely rethink the automobile. The CITROËN C4 Picasso has transformed the segment, becoming the leading model in its class in 2008 and going on sale in the first-quarter of 2009, the CITROËN C3 Picasso has the same ambitions. With the new CITROËN Berlingo Multispace, launched in May 2008, and CITROËN Nemo Multispace, coming in early 2009, CITROËN will have a range of five, renewed MPV vehicles, making it the standard-setter in this segment.

For the future, the CITROËN Hypnos concept car heralds diesel hybrid technology and the CITROËN C-Cactus is a new vision of the automobile.

Non-conformist advertising spirit
CITROËN's new advertising strap line is Créative Technologie. Written in French, identical worldwide and rich in meaning, these words form the basis of the new advertising strategy. Every advert demonstrates the promise of the brand and the benefits for the customer, whilst remaining playful and optimistic.
For the first time since 1983, the Marque is launching a new advertising campaign co-developed with Agence H, a subsidiary of the Havas group.

Graphic principles for visibility and consistency
Today CITROËN is introducing new graphic designs, a single typography and a unique tone of voice to boost the visibility and consistency of the brand. The new brand will universally reflect the Marque's new status. The key colours are white, denoting openness and elegance, and red, to express vitality, together with black, grey and chrome, for status and power.

Websites to win new customers
A full 70% of customers who walk into a CITROËN outlet today have visited the brand website beforehand to find information. The www.citroen.co.uk website, the initial contact point between the Marque and its customers, will now fulfil a compass role, pointing web users to local sales sites.

To ensure the consistency of all media, CITROËN is applying the new visual identity to its 20 European websites on the morning of 6 February, using cutting-edge full 3D technology for all web communication concerning the new image.

CITROËN will enter a new internet era starting in the second-half of 2009, with a new European web strategy.

CITROËN Sport becomes CITROËN Racing
CITROËN has entered the motor sport history books with four World Rally Championship Manufacturers' titles and five WRC titles for driver Sébastien Loeb and co-driver Daniel Elena. Coinciding with the Cyprus Rally, CITROËN Sport is changing its name to CITROËN Racing. The specific qualities of WRC – speed, vitality, impetus – are incorporated in the new CITROËN Racing logo.

II – NEW CUSTOMER RELATIONS

Architecture: Profound network transformation
To enhance customer relations and their experience of the brand, CITROËN is transforming its international network of sales outlets, including showroom, reception, sales and maintenance areas.

Outside, transparency, fluidity and colour provide simple and immediately recognisable points of reference. Inside, the customer experience has been entirely redesigned to lead customers naturally to the services they are looking for. As part of the ever-present CITROËN world, dedicated areas highlight the expertise of the Marque's functions.

The new architecture concept was selected from 12 shortlisted projects by a jury made up of CITROËN's main managers and the Landor agency, as part of an international competition. The winning project embodies the Marque's ambition and makes the brand adaptable to all network conditions, whatever the location, layout and level of investment.

Over the next few years, CITROËN's 8,000 sales outlets will be transformed so that customers all over the world can take pleasure in visiting their CITROËN outlet. CITROËN is implementing the new sales outlet architecture internally through an international network of architecture representatives and externally through a designated network of architects.

CITROËN already inaugurated this new architectural spirit at C_42, the brand's showcase on the world-famous Champs-Elysées. Some two million people have visited C_42 since it opened in September 2007.

Among the best on customer satisfaction
The customer's experience of CITROËN has to be outstanding in all circumstances. To this end, the Marque has implemented a set of customer commitments in both sales and aftersales - "The Building Blocks ". These include: taking care of customers immediately and on an individual basis; providing fast and clear answers; ensuring personalised vehicle handover and presentation; respecting lead times; giving explanations of work carried out; and follow-up afterwards.

Sales Building Blocks
1. You are welcomed within three minutes.
2. Internet information requests are answered within 24 hours.
3. Your needs are clearly identified. Adapted products and services are presented systematically.
4. You are offered a test drive, spontaneously and systematically.
5. You receive a formalised and personalised sales proposal or a completed order form.
6. The salesperson thanks you, sees you to the door and says goodbye.
7. You are given a reliable delivery date and informed immediately of any change.
8. The vehicle is delivered in perfect condition and complies 100% with your order.
You are advised on use and maintenance.
9. You are contacted no more than 5 days after handover to check you are happy with your vehicle.

After-Sales Building Blocks
1. You are welcomed at the exact appointment time.
2. The protective items on your vehicle are fitted and removed in your presence.
3. A complete vehicle inspection is made in your presence.
4. You are informed of the work to be performed and presented with an estimate.
5. You are given a reliable time and notified of any changes in vehicle work (delays, extra work, etc.).
6. Your work is carried out as requested.
7. You receive an explanation of the work carried out and the invoice.
8. You are advised on vehicle maintenance and any future work to be planned.
9. You are contacted no less than 5 days after your workshop visit to check you are satisfied with the work.

To achieve this breakthrough on service quality and respect these commitments, CITROËN has a quality policy based on taking after-sales into account in product design, new accounting methods and network training courses, and the exchange of best practices.

These best practices are being rolled out through a lean management approach, operational for ten years in PSA Peugeot CITROËN plants and applied today in sales outlets.

CITROËN's objective is to make its network a standard-setter on service quality. The Marque regularly measures performance and has shared objectives: to rank among the best carmakers in multi-brand surveys on purchase, delivery, servicing and repair, and to rank top-five in JD Power annual surveys.

CITROËN Select forges a new dynamic in used vehicles
CITROËN is enhancing its policy and launching CITROËN Select, 34 years after the launch of the Eurocasion label in Europe.

CITROËN Select is:

* a strengthened range of services, including a warranty extension for vehicles over seven years old.
* better visibility on CITROËN's commitments to its customers:
o finance options, including leasing;
o additional service offers, including warranty, maintenance and servicing contracts;
o initial inspection free of charge;
o complete assistance 24/7 in 45 European countries;
o a new image of used vehicles with an international dimension.

To implement this new used-vehicle strategy, CITROËN developed an optimised organisation structure in 2008, with centralised management of the used vehicle business for the entire Marque and new tools and methods for the network.

The objective is to increase our distributors' share of used vehicle sales compared with new vehicle sales and to boost the satisfaction of our customers, transforming the used-vehicle business into a growth lever.

Meeting the needs of professionals with CITROËN Business
The Marque has developed CITROËN Business to respond to the specific needs of professional customers.

CITROËN Business is a range of targeted products and services provided by specialist salespeople in dedicated areas.

CITROËN is leading this sales offensive with a view to increasing brand sales to professional customers, and sales of passenger cars in particular. This policy is already showing results. In 2008, thanks to the success of the CITROËN C4 Picasso, the new CITROËN C5 and our renewed range of LCVs, CITROËN reported a 0.4-point increase in its share of car and LCV business sales in the seven biggest European markets, France, Germany, Spain, UK, Italy, Belgium and the Netherlands.

The first tangible sign of change is the creation of Business Centers in our network. CITROËN's Business Centers comply with strict criteria in order to bring our customers personalised and adapted solutions:
In Sales, salespeople are trained and 100% dedicated to professional customers, and LCVs are displayed in dedicated, clearly visible areas. In After-Sales adapted opening hours are offered, dedicated contact people and phone numbers, a commitment to maximum wait times for workshop appointments, and the systematic proposal of a mobility solution in the event that a vehicle breaks down or remains off the road.

III – NEW PRODUCT STRATEGIES
Alongside the profound changes in its sales outlets and customer commitments, CITROËN is also thoroughly transforming its product strategy.

CITROËN today has the largest and most diverse range in its history. It will continue to differentiate its models, and at the same time accelerate their arrival on the market. Over the next three years, CITROËN will launch six new models in Europe, at a sustained pace of one launch every six months.

The customer expectation is changing; this is why CITROËN is launching complementary product strategies, corresponding to the kind of change its customers are looking for.

Development strategy
Renewing models and making them significantly better than their predecessors is already an ambitious programme. But some customers want deeper-seated changes as mentalities shift from "wanting more" to "wanting better". This strategy is based on two approaches:

* Practical but stylish

The first approach, consisting in satisfying fundamental mobility needs, addresses customers who, having down-sized, are on the look-out for more economical – and more intelligent – products.

Some would describe this as low-cost, but it isn't. The real challenge for CITROËN is designing products that are less expensive but with no loss in appeal. This approach is perfectly illustrated by the CITROËN C3 Picasso, a real recession proof car. And, going forward, our CITROËN C-Cactus project will be an even more accomplished solution.

* Motoring pleasure and pride of ownership

In contrast, the second approach favours motoring pleasure, with no loss in practicality. Customers here are looking for outstanding products that confer status and bring them an all-new automotive experience. They want prestige, thrills and refinement, without the rigid codes of traditional upper-range models.

To address this need, CITROËN is today launching a new line of products to broaden its current range. The new line will consist of three new cars, positioned in the small, medium and large car segments, launched successively from 2010.

The first illustration of this new product line is the CITROËN DS INSIDE concept car. The concept car and vehicle line are characterised by forthright choices on styling, onroad performance and use. These are accessible objects of desire, cars that stand apart by their creativity, intelligent design and build quality, embodying the very best of CITROËN. The new product line will perfectly illustrate CITROËN's new spirit of "Créative Technologie".

The new line will also have a new naming system. Like the main range vehicles, which carry the letter C and a number, and, like the MPVs, which sport the Picasso signature, the new models will feature a special name: the DS line.

DS stood and continues to stand for a new approach to automobiles and the future. CITROËN is taking inspiration from its design DNA to strengthen the positioning of its new product line. The range instills the different spirit, that the name DS inspires. Hence the distinctive model line up will be called DS3, DS4 and DS5. DS: Different Spirit.

IV – February 2009: A new era. CITROËN plays a starring role.

CITROËN at 42 Champs Elysées
Each season at C_42 sheds new and spectacular light on the world of CITROËN. C_42 has become one of the trendiest destinations on the Champs-Elysées, drawing some two million visitors since opening in September 2007.

The Marque's international showcase has now been completely transformed for a very special season. The interior is illuminated by a 20-metre high screen revealing CITROËN's new brand image. Each floor of this outstanding building takes visitors on a sensory tour of the new brand strap-line, "Créative Technologie".

With the CITROËN C-Cactus concept car, displayed on the ground floor in an electric version sporting the new chevrons, CITROËN is exploring new design paths. Through maximum weight reduction, new architecture and new materials, the Marque is pointing to a new kind of mobility, one that is responsible and optimistic.

An interactive experience awaits visitors on the first floor, where they get to take an urban journey using Stop & Start micro-hybrid technology, which reduces fuel consumption and CO2 emissions by more than 10% while improving acoustic comfort.

On the second floor, visitors can configure their very own CITROËN using a "multi-touch" table, gaining fuller insight into the Marque's colours and materials universe.

Also on display is a CITROËN C5, fitted with intelligent traction control technology, and a CITROËN C3 Picasso, the latest expression of the Marque's creativity. Visitors also get to experience a panoramic vision of the CITROËN C4 Picasso with an onboard camera.

Arriving on the top floor, visitors are treated to a range of sensory experiences focused on well-being in the CITROËN Lounge, while taking in a magnificent view over the Champs-Elysées.

From what we can tell from this sketch, the MF4 will look nearly identical to other Wiesmann Roadsters. So, we can only guess that the new stuff is happening under the hood. World Car Fans is speculating that motive power could come either from BMW's 367 HP 4.8-liter V8 or even the 420 HP 4.0-liter from the 2008 BMW M3.
Infiniti To Reveal Concept Car, Louis Vuitton Luggage At Geneva

Hard to imagine a stranger marketing fit than French luxury bag maker Louis Vuitton and Infiniti, Nissan's re-badged luxury brand, but they're partnering on a new concept debuting at the 2009 Geneva Motor Show.

Infiniti has managed to keep the concept car they're debuting at Geneva pretty hush-hush, but given the recent precedents across the industry, we can expect to be beaten over the head with a series of nonsensical teasers any time now. We do know one thing — it will be packing some custom Louis Vuitton luggage somewhere in the car. We can't say it'll be in the boot for sure because, you know, it's a concept car, it may not even have a trunk. It may be a 'luxury enclosed space" or an "exclusive stowage section." Seriously, sometimes the marketingspeak is just ridiculous. And what is that thing in the picture anyway — is that a custom seat cushion? A wedge laptop bag? This makes no sense. Yet.

INFINITI PACKS LOUIS VUITTON FOR GENEVA

ROLLE, Switzerland (February 5 2009) - Infiniti, the luxury car company from Japan, has announced its collaboration with Louis Vuitton, the French luxury brand, for the creation of a bespoke set of luggage for a concept car to be revealed at the 2009 International Geneva Motor Show next month.

The dramatic concept will be a celebration of Infiniti and its 20 years history as a creator of performance cars. But equally it will be an inspiring exploration into the brand's future.

For Louis Vuitton, this collaboration is the latest in a long heritage of designing custom luggage for special automobiles.

* INFINITI comes from Japan. Its line-up of performance sedans, coupes and crossovers is now being launched across Europe through a dedicated network of Infiniti Centres which share a commitment to individualised and exceptional customer service. For more information, see www.infiniti.eu.

Technically, it's the European version of the 2010 Mazda3 MPS, a.k.a. the Mazdaspeed Axela, but historically all versions have looked incredibly similar. The giddy MPS will get the MZR 2.3-liter DISI Turbo engine from the previous model with an unknown amount of horsepower. We'll be here to bring you the full monty when it's revealed.

As BMW insists on segmenting its product lineup, the X1, based off the BMW X1 concept, is the latest in their assault on reason, slotted somewhere between a 3-series wagon, the BMW X3 and heck, let's just throw the X6 in as well. Then there's the BMW Progressive Activity Vehicle concept on the way, so who knows where all these fat-bottomed "Ultimate driving machines" end up.

Anyway, the X1 is expected to debut at the pending 2009 Geneva Motor Show with a version of the xDrive all-wheel-drive system, gadget-ridden center consoles and a 3.0-liter straight-six from the 128i. We're also hearing about a possible four cylinder rumored under development.
2010 Mazdaspeed3, Mazda3 i-Stop Heading To Geneva

Mazda is set to unveil two diametric opposites at the Geneva Motor Show: the new-and-frugal Mazda3 i-Stop and more importantly to us gearheads, the rip-snorting 2.3-liter turbocharged all-new 2010 Mazdaspeed3.

Of course, Mazda's actually unveiling the non-U.S. version of the 2010 Mazdaspeed3 — the 2010 Mazda3 MPS (also called the Mazdaspeed Axela). But expect to see something similar for the U.S. market with the longer name in the near future. But first, let's talk about the more eco-friendly Mazda3. The i-Stop is designed to be a fuel miser, with the MZR 2.0 Direct Injection Spark Ignition engine with Mazda's i-stop system, which pulls off stop/start duties to save gas. The result is a 12% increase in fuel economy over the standard model.

That's nice and all, but it's the hood-scooped and scorching red Mazda3 MPS (Mazdaspeed3) with the four cylinder MZR 2.3-liter DISI Turbo engine which piques our interest. If the last model was any indication this should be a hoot of a car on the street and at the track. Expect complete details when the cars are unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show in March.

All-new Mazda3 i-stop, Mazda3 MPS to Premiere at the 2009 Geneva Motor Show

Mazda Motor Corporation will debut two new models of the all-new Mazda3 (known as Mazda Axela in Japan) product range at the 2009 Geneva International Motor Show from March 3 through 15, 2009. The world premiere of the Mazda3 with i-stop, Mazda's advanced fuel-saving start-stop system, will be shared with the all-new Mazda3 MPS, Mazda3's high performance flagship model. The Mazda3 MPS (Mazdaspeed Axela) now features improved fuel economy and emissions that satisfy Euro Stage 5.

Mazda3 i-stop

The Mazda3 is one of Mazda's core products, with more than two million units of the first generation produced. The design of the new model has a bolder and more dynamic stance; it is agile and confidence-inspiring, enhancing the sense of oneness between the driver and car. It also has high environmental and safety performance levels, exemplifying Mazda's Sustainable Zoom-Zoom long-term vision to provide cars that are eco-friendly and safe while still being fun to drive.

The Mazda3 with i-stop embodies Sustainable Zoom-Zoom and adds a new eco-friendly option to the lineup. It features the i-stop system in combination with the MZR 2.0 DISI (Direct Injection Spark Ignition) engine. Together, these two Mazda proprietary technologies help the new model achieve approximately 12 percent lower fuel consumption (urban cycle) than the current European Mazda3. By providing great driving performance as well as top-class fuel economy, the Mazda3 with i-stop is a different type of eco-car that will exceed customer expectations.

Mazda3 MPS

The Mazda3 MPS sport compact pushes Mazda design further and its exciting driving performance perfectly represents Mazda's Zoom-Zoom spirit. Carrying forward the MZR 2.3 DISI Turbo engine, Mazda3 MPS builds on the popularity and recognition of the previous model. It evolves the driving experience to an entirely new level of quality and pleasure with its emotional design and exhilarating performance.

The all-new Mazda3 Program Manager, Yoshiyuki Maeda, says, "These two models add extra value to an all-new Mazda3 lineup that has already shown strong appeal. The new Mazda3 series takes a significant step ahead in both the realms of driving performance and environmental technology to lead the way toward a new generation of motoring."

As part of its 90th anniversary, Citroen will announce plans for the revival of it's legendary DS range, starting with the DS3, to be unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show in March and set for sale in the middle of 2010. The mid-segment 2012 Citron DS4 will follow, going on sale in the beginning of 2011. The top-of the-line 2011 DS5 will follow at the end of the same year.

Details on the plans for this more expensive set of cars will be revealed on Wednesday, but we all know what should be involved - fancy suspensions. There's literally nothing telling us it'll be included, but we would absolutely plotz if Citroen announced they'd be using the amazing Bose electromagnetic suspension system as a modern version of the hyrdropneumatic suspension system. A grease monkey can hope, right? We'll be waiting on the edges of our seats for the formal announcement on Wednesday.
BMW PAS Concept Video Invents Yet Another WTF-UV Segment

Something new, 100% BMW." Seriously? What, did BMW decide the X6 wasn't weird-looking enough?

The video carries us through a stream of conscious design process in cartoon form, gently dancing around the points which say "we're building a fancy minivan" with so much marketingspeak you'll need hip waders to watch it. That's not to say this new WTF-UV they're hinting at doesn't have some innovative features. From the video, it seems whatever it is will feature a panoramic sunroof which would be a first in a minivan (unless you count the R-Class, which Mercedes wishes we didn't), and enclosed interior cargo area and a sloping tumblehome at the rear which allows for a sort of trunk within the tailgate, or at least that's what it seems in the video. Of course, everything is "luxury" this and "first class" that, but at the end of the day it sure sounds like we're talking about a fancy minivan here, no matter how hard BMW tries not to say it. Sure, call it the PAS or whatever, which by the way, stands for Progressive Activity Sedan. Whatever, it still sounds like a minivan to us.
Given the timing on the video, we're expecting this concept will be revealed at either the 2009 Geneva Motor Show or the Frankfurt Motor Show.

Improved Aerodynamics, Suspension, Braking Distinguish 2010 GT3

ATLANTA, Jan. 29 — Porsche will launch the fastest, most powerful 911 GT3 to-date at the Geneva Motor Show on March 3, 2009. The high performance GT3 is the latest in the new generation 911 series and carries over a wide range of expertise learned from motorsports — resulting is superb capabilities both on road and on track.

The 2010 Porsche 911 GT3 raises the performance bar thanks to an increase in engine size to 3.8 liters and VarioCam technology now on both the intake and exhaust. The naturally aspirated six-cylinder boxer engine develops 435 bhp, 20 bhp more than its predecessor.

The new, larger engine offers a significant increase in torque at medium engine speeds, which is particularly important for everyday driving. Track performance is also improved; the new GT3 accelerates to 60 mph in 4.0 seconds and reaches a top track speed of 194 mph.

    Improved Suspension

Driving dynamics have also been enhanced, and the new GT3 offers even better grip and stability. Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM) has enabled Porsche's engineers to make the springs and anti-roll bars stiffer, thus ensuring even more precise handling in sport mode, while retaining a level of comfort suitable for everyday use in normal mode. For the first time, the 911 GT3 comes standard with Porsche Stability Management (PSM), with suspension mapping mirroring that of the GT2. The driver can disengage both stability control and traction control in separate steps.

    Refined Aerodynamics

At high speeds, aerodynamic improvements have increased downforce at both the front and rear, more than doubling the effect of the previous GT3. At the same time, the new aerodynamics package, with larger vents in the front and rear bumpers gives the GT3 a brand-new look, accentuated by standard bi-xenon headlights, LED rear light clusters and modified air intakes and outlets.

    Innovative Engine Mounts

The new GT3 will be available with new and highly innovative dynamic engine mounts. Utilizing magnetic fluid, these inventive mounts automatically stiffen to create a more solid coupling between the engine and chassis when the car is driven energetically. This provides a sporting, rigid assembly on fast bends and winding racetracks yet allows for engine isolation and increased comfort while driving in everyday traffic. Traction is also improved when accelerating from a standstill.

    Upgraded Brakes

With driving dynamics and performance at an even higher level, the brake system, following a long Porsche tradition, has also been enhanced accordingly. Brake discs are larger and feature an aluminum hub to reduce weight. Increased brake ventilation ensures a high level of brake power over long periods, and the GT3 can also be equipped with PCCB ceramic brakes, developed specifically for this model.

    Creative Front End Lift

A new lift system for the front axle is also available. By utilizing an on-board air compressor, the front of the car can be raised for steep driveways or inclines. A the touch of a button raises the front ride height by 30 mm, or 1.18 inches and at speeds up to approximately 30 mph. New, lighter GT3 specific center lock wheels and ultra-high performance tires round out the functional and visual enhancement of the GT3.

The 2010 Porsche 911 GT3 will be available in the fall of 2009, MSRP $112,200 US.

With a base price of $112,200, one would expect it to deliver some walloping technology. It doesn't appear to disappoint.

The 911 GT3 continues pushing the definition of what a rear-engined car is capable of and with a 20 HP bump up to 435 HP from the 3.8 liter flat six, 0-60 MPH is in 4.0 second range with a top speed of 194 MPH, but that's not really the news here. The real word on the new GT3 is technical refinement. That 3.8-liter flat six gets Porsche's Variocam system hooked onto the both the intake and exhaust for the new car, improving performance throughout the rev band. Torque is claimed to be improved but no figures have been given at this point.

That engine rests on magnetorheological engine mounts, meaning the mounts can go from heavy dampers to keep things smooth in the cabin to solid bricks with no flex, transmitting every ounce of power to the wheels. That power gets routed through a suspension designed with stiffer springs and anti-roll bars while ride comfort is supposedly unaffected. That suspension does another trick too, by utilizing an onboard compressor, and what we assume is an airbag system, the car can raise itself 1.18 inches to make it easier to get over speedbumps and up ramps.

Other improvements include aerodynamic considerations, new two piece brakes with an aluminum center section to cut unsprung weight, fancy bi-xenon headlights, LED tail lights and modified air intakes. Current details available below and we'll have the complete details when the car debuts in March.

Mitsubishi i-MiEV Sport Air Concept Heading To Geneva

The Geneva Motor Show will see the debut of the Mitsubishi i-MiEV Sport Air Concept, building on the i-MiEV electric platform with a sexier profile. Well, sexier for an electric car.

The Mitsubishi i-MiEV Sport Air Concept is designed to make the idea of EV's, and particularly affordable EV's, a bit more palatable. It takes a styling page from the Mitsubishi i MiEV Electric Concept but brings things a bit closer to reality and works to communicate Mitsubishi's rather stealthy but substantial battery development program. It also pushes the idea of, get this, fun, given the inherent torquiness of electric motors. This might be the first time a normal EV gets pitched to normal people with stuff like performance instead of getting wrapped in a leafy green PR pitch of environmental responsibility, which bores us to death.

TOKYO, Japan - January 26, 2009: Mitsubishi Motors Corporation is to give the i MiEV SPORT AIR concept model its global debut at the 79th Geneva International Motor Show which runs from March 3 through March 15 at the Geneva Palexpo exhibition and conference complex (opening to the general public on March 5).

The i MiEV SPORT AIR explores the future possibilities for zero-emission vehicles, placing a greater bias on exhilarating driving pleasure. The concept model exemplifies the balance between environmental and dynamic performance implied in the tagline Drive@earth, and highlights the benefits of the Mitsubishi electric vehicle drivetrain:

Powerful, instant torque from a beefed-up electric motor

Stable driving and handling and a low center of gravity, due to the in-floor lithium-ion battery

Zero on-road CO2 emissions

Together, these features along with the car's "clear cutaway" top allow the driver to enjoy the exhilaration of fresh-air motoring while also highlighting its eco-friendly qualities.

In this nice profile shot we get to dissect what's happening under the spinning stars at Stuttgart. The strongest design element is the side glass emerging from an elegant pair of arching curves framed in chrome accents. The rear haunches are exaggerated in form almost to the point of emulating a pontoon fender. The wheels seem like they've been nicked from an Audi S5 along with the shape of the trunk lid, but the nose is pure Mercedes. That freight train flat and pedestrian friendly nose looks goofy in profile, but in a walk-around it turns from silly to stately.
Verboten shots of the new E-Class sedan snuck out a couple weeks ago, but these show the sleek and aggressive new look for the Coupe version, long overdue update to the stylish two door. This one may even be an AMG, but that's totally speculative. The new E-coupe gets a more edgy set of headlights, pronounced body lines and a built-in diffuser at the back, though we'll bet our hats its all style for that bit. Head over to World Car Fans to get a better look.

Rinspeed iChange Transforming Concept To Debut At Geneva

Following the debut of the James Bond-inspired Rinspeed Squba at the last Geneva Auto Show, Rinspeed plans to wow Transformers fans in Geneva with their iChange 1-2-3-seater concept.

The Rinspeed iChange concept uses what the company calls an “electronic trick-tail” to change the shape of the cabin to fit the number of passengers. When only the driver is on-board a lower profile provides a more aerodynamic shape. If others want a ride the vehicle will move up to provide more space for up to two more passengers. When not shape-shifting, the car runs on a 174 HP electric motor, and apparently hope.

Why do we say that? According to the press release, the name "iChange" is meant to imply that we all have to want to change to electric cars unless we want the world to end. So the gauntlet is thrown down with the statement: "The best possible answer the big automakers could find for the “iChange” would be a strong 'Yes, we can!'" Does that make any sense? Not really, but it sounds like a certain campaign slogan from a certain president-elect has inspired the designers and marketers at Rinspeed. Full, hopeful details in the press release below.

World premiere at the 79th International Motor Show in Geneva March 5th thru March 15th 2009

Swiss off-the-wall thinker Frank M. Rinderknecht constructs concept cars with fully variable body design.
"iChange“ - 1-2-3-seater with "trick-tail"

Zumikon - World premiere at the Geneva International Motor Show (March 5th thru March 15th 2009): with the “iChange” the Swiss designers of Rinspeed present a “1-2-3-seater” powered by a 130 kw-electric motor. The concept car’s striking body structure adapts via “electronic trick-tail” to the number of passengers: while the sporty and streamlined teardrop shape seats only the driver, two more passengers may join him once the car’s rear end has risen as if by magic. In the blink of an eye the full-blooded sports car turns into a compact sportsvan.

With the Rinspeed “iChange“ the automotive jack-of-all-trades Frank M. Rinderknecht and his partners aim to provide thought-provoking impulses for the automobile industry: “Thinking about variability and the constantly changing energy demand, we have created an extremely flexible vehicle.” The result is a zero-emission car featuring both extremely low weight and aerodynamic drag, thus further reducing the power consumption.

For Mr. Rinderknecht the car’s name “iChange” means more than a flowery phrase: “If we want to preserve our individual mobility in the future, we have to re-think our conception of cars - above all we need to accommodate the ecological aspects.” The best possible answer the big automakers could find for the “iChange” would be a strong “Yes, we can!”

If the Porsche Panamera and the Aston Martin Rapide aren't exclusive or fast enough for you, wait until the Geneva Motor Show next spring. A report from Car Middle East claims the mad men over at Koenigsegg are planning a four-door, all carbon fiber, 700 HP super sedan to make those others look like <s>photo-</s>chopped liver. The report also claims the car is planned to hit the showroom in 2010, and has been under development for two years. But what about the boasts? Well, Koenigsegg’s Dubai manager said the car "will weigh less than any other performance saloon on sale, and will have a top speed of 350 KPH." Cause nothing says "I'm badass" like a 217 MPH afternoon with the family. [CarMiddleEast]

Post Geneva Shocker: Lumeneo Smera Is A Two Seater!

A couple of days ago, we received an email from Lumeneo's PR rep Isabel giving us the business about the all-electric, leaning Lumeneo Smera we brought you. She claimed the car was not as our American eyes could clearly see, a single seater, but in fact a two seater! 'Impossible!' we said, 'Prove it with a picture.' And so she has. Seated inline, inside that tiny little car are father Daniel and son Thierry Moulène, President and Technical Director respectively.

We promise there are no tricks of photography, no tricks, this is a real picture and two grown men are in the Smera. You can look for pixels yourself with this full size image. Guess that explains the funny shape of the lower seat cushion. We thought the press release was in error when it said two passengers. So now we have a two seat, all electric, four wheeled, leaning micro car that will get to 62 MPH in 8 seconds, top out at 80 MPH, and run for 93 miles. This just keeps getting better and better. We actually kind of want to give one a spin now.

As we were exiting the incredibly trippy Schtroumpfs residential development, our eye caught something sleek and silver and slowly floating down the road on a flatbed. This Aston Martin V8 Vantage seems to be in the midst of a restoration and probably becoming a new man's Project Car Hell. We couldn't quite nail down the vintage, but it looks like early 70's for this lithe British beast. The fella with the Touareg seemed happy with the attention the car garnered, but we would have lost our minds driving that big trailer around the cramped streets of Geneva.

DOTS Geneva: A Tiny Something Or Other

We have no idea what this is, but after the Peel Trident, this is probably the smallest street legal vehicle we've ever seen. And despite our best deciphering and sleuthing efforts, it remains unidentified. F-gobble-de-gook Tech was the best we could get out of it. How can someone get into this thing and feel fine about it? We'd rather take our chances on a regular scoot, at least there you can jump away from a wreck. But hey, this is a convertible and has those fancy, new fangled canvas doors.

We're not modern European traffic law standards scholars, but we're assuming there is a 50 cc quadracycle kind of niche carved out below regular cars as kei cars work in Japan. This particular one has a 50 cc license plate which we assume means a 49 cc scooter motor and you can see the CVT poking out the bottom. I suppose if you don't want to put up with the wind and maybe have an inner ear infection causing vertigo and mild insanity, this makes sense.
